For a life in chronic pain and illness, celebrating mini victories is absolutely necessary.
Along my walk with chronic pain and illness, despite attempting every treatment modality known to man, reaching that all-time goal of being in no pain has proven to be near impossible over the past 12 years. And when all focus is on that goal of “regaining my health” and completely “overcoming migraines”, it’s easy to make any other progress to feel like a wash. In my case, when I switched from seeing no pain as the goal, and instead chose to celebrate and strive for any baby steps I can make towards improved health– I found there was a lot more to celebrate. Thus inspired this podcast episode, on celebrating small victories. In my case this looks like taking less abortives, it looks like staying out of the ER, it looks like being able to play soccer and actually feel excited instead of terrified to step on the field, It looks like doing something active and not feeling sore on every inch of my body the next day. All things the old me would have certainly seen as normal or trivial, at the very least. Current me? She says each of these small victories are actually huge.
LISTEN here! Cheers to celebrating simple things….just because we can.
